diary of progress

I began the project by writing the story board, the script and sorted out cast and crew, decided to go with my friends, I gave out time schedules and scripts and waited responses on facebook,

Then I did the budget, overall cost was 78p and this was for parts for the props. The equipment list and the risk assessment was checked and rechecked as well as the location to make sure it was safe enough for others to use without risk of injury, sorted out location plans and schedule. Looked over again and made sure that it left plenty of time for editing and things of that nature.

Afterwards I did risk assessment on area, the area was my kitchen in my house, did all research and treatment and location plans.

Then I made contingency plan and the rest of the items on the list of things i had to do such as finding similar videos to mine and making reviews and getting opinions, the opinions came from they're comments from other people who watched the film. This left a good quality of reviews for me to look at, making it easy to find out others opinions on the videos.

After that I had to follow through with contingency plan after original failed, the reason was that neither me or my friends were able to show up at a good date after we all had plans made before ours,

When that was done I began animation using paint and windows movie maker, took roughly 3 weeks to finish my work but in the end and through much hardship i finished it in enough time to accommodate the editing and publishing.

Afterwards I reviewed similar music video's to mine and saw how they worked and how they attracted people in to make it so well known, such as the use of colour and filming techniques to make it some you would expect from this type of band.

Then I cut out scenes which were no longer needed after contingency plan came into action, the reason was that neither me or my friends were able to show up at a good date after we all had plans made before ours, while i was still able to use there images in the video thanks to there due consent it was still a task getting a new plan ready.

Then I made sure all sound was in alignment with animation so far, it is a very important thing to make sure that the animation fits whats going on, a little mistake could be dangerous to the overall project making it look slapped together.

After that I made sure all work done so far was ready so i would receive no nasty surprises in the near future, because thinking that your done and then finding out you had something important left to do is a very bad feeling and not a pleasant experience for you or your teacher.

Then I got angry at computer for being slow, it was running a lot of thing `and made going slow, i was frustrated because i had to work on it but was unable to because of it poor working and was lucky to save what i had, I nearly smashed computer due to frustration of it running slow when i needed to work fast.

Then I overcame the frustration and calmed down and carried on working after taking a break and letting things slow down a little, i had only a little left to do and was able to finish it in time for the due date and for it to be viewed by the teacher.

I made evaluation of the video so far, only had a little bit more to do and it was done, i made sure to include the important role the use of colour played in this as it did indeed have a large part in this short film.

I finished the video after roughly 3 weeks of labour and continuos work, it made for a lot of hardship and toil but i managed to make it in the end.

I turned in video to Joda Allen, she watched it out loud in class and was pleased with the results.

Unit 78

Task 1 (LO1)

Cel Shading
Is the process which gives a 3D drawing its colour, it makes it look hand drawn yet 3D at the same time such as in the simpsons game made for PSP where the chachters look drawn and so do the background but yet its still, this method is used in alomost every video game played on either playstation or computers. Commonly known as CGI, this is the best formatt for games since the early 2D game such as Supermario

Abstractions
This is the name given to the art style or things that dont seem quite normal for a video game such as whether its chirpy or happy or ominouse and morbid, a good example of this is the game limbo, it has won awards for the best artwork used in a game, but this is the morbid side of video games

Exaggeration
this is used in most manga, no, scratch that, every manga. it genrally means appearance, in manga it is shown that they have large eyes and big hair such as in 'Dragonball' where they have an abundance of massive spiky hair, big eyes and overly large muscles

Photo realism
this is being able to make computer animation look extremely realistic so from first glance you wouldent tell, but a even better example is the advert for the latest TOYOTA, it shows a man in CG form but you would not know from first appearance untill you look closely, then you realis he is not real.

Task 3 (LO3)

Pixels
a pixel is a tiny coloured square where many of them are used to make a full image, if you was to take a close look at a computer screen, you would see a tiny check patern, each square is a tiny pixel, each a different colour to make different contrasts or images

Types of Digital Graphics
Raster
also known as bitmap, is basically a rectangular grid on a screen or a page, these are used to create and store images, these are usually difined by the number of bits per pixels (a colour which determines the number of colors it can represent such as different shades of red).

Vector
vector is made of lines instead of pixels and can still be high resolution after zooming in a number of times, unlike pixels wich gets very unclear as you can see from the picture above, but when done with lines the the lines get smaller as you zoom in still giving you a clear picture, this is used in most 3d games and also in CCT camera's.

File Extensions
Examples of filename extensions are .png, .exe, .dmg and .txt, these are seen on the end of file names, they are used to say what sort of file it is and what type of infomation can be taken from it. or say would it be compatable with another file type or system?

Compression
file compression is the name given to being able to covert a picture from taking up lots of MG (Mega Gigs) to a file type that dosent take up so much despite this sometimes affecting the Picture (e.g brightness, colours).

Optimising
this means changing different aspects about an image for the desire of whoever is in charge such as changing the point of view or making it bigger or smaller, (zooming), this is used often eith by the player or by the game if the the camera taking the view hits a building or a wall, it will change itself either into a overhead shot or side shot depending on the situation.

Image Capture
image capture is simply the name given to seeing something and then getting that image onto the computer screen, you could take a picture of it with a camera and sent it via blutooth or USB port and safe it as a file type, or if its a hand drawn image you can use a scannet wich scans the image and makes an exact copy for your computer, another way to get hand drawn images onto a computer is by using a graphics tablet to draw an image and have it appear on the computer while drawing.

Storage of image assets

Back Ups
these a essential for most important files, to create a copy and store it in a speacial place, with speacial programming it will be edited alongwith the original peace. this is essencial if you have say a faulty computer or your afraid of files being deleted by accident

File Size
file size can be an important factor sometimes when saving things, say, if you have a limited file space on your computer, you would have to safe it as something else that dosn't take up so much space, say you had only 100 KG left and one file type took up 110, and another 70, you would save it as the second one

File Formats
JPEG
PNG
GIF
TIFF
24-BIT BITMAP
256 COLOUR BITMAP
16 COLOUR BITMAP
MONOCHROME BITMAP

Uses
different file types have different uses, such as, if you was drawing a picture and wanted to comeback to it later then it would be best if you saved it as 24-BIT BITMAP, if you dident plan on writing any more the you could probably save it as JPEG

storage of assets

Naming Conventions

When it comes to naming files its important to use self descriptive titles that give a clear idea idea of what the file is, example, 'school document' isn't very descriptive and can mean many things, whereas the title, 'School Homework - Media' is a much better, more precise title and gives a clear idea of what the document is about. it is important when making a game that you give it a clear title, as when you make a game it uses up hundreds of complex files wich can look similar but arnt, so if you do not give them clear names you could end up getting rid of something important and being left with something you dont want, this can create set backs and dilimas wich could postpone the debute of a game and cost money to manufactorers and 'Game' shops. We have also been looking at different games and key aspects aboutr it such as charachters and interactivity, the game i chose was 'The Simpsons Hit and Run', and wrote in deph about its style, is charachteristics, and its quality, the game is shot entirly in CGI, the quality of wich varied, so i wrote about how i felt it was better in the cutaways than that of the actual gameplay such as in the intro and the ending,

compression

compression is where a picture is saved in one file wich uses a lot of KB and then saved into another file wich doent use a lot of KB, but dosent effect the picture, this saves lots of space on the computer

Evaluation
1.       My media presentation has several real movie traits, such as a production company (Showering Man productions) and several movie shots often seen in a real movie such as panning where your run along with the actor, this happened when we had Nathan running through the woods, as he passed the camera followed him and when he got to a certain distance we ran after him with the camera, when he stopped by the tree the camera caught up to him and circled him and a low angle so the camera was looking up at him as he looked up and around and said his line. Cuts two and from both the actors points of view, this happened when lee was about to give Nathan the kill shot we see a shot of Nathan looking at lee from lees point of view, and then we see a shot of lee about to shoot Nathan from Nathans point of view. but also we use there is a lot of things we use but the major films don’t, such as constant cutting and ability to make use of two different backdrops to look like the same area, this happened because the original woods which were a great location for filming where too far away for some of the more lazy people of our production team, so we had to find another set to film in on short notice but luckily for us there was another woods not far from where the school is located, it was only a small cluster of tree’s but it did its purpose, so we was able to get away with that, whereas a normal film would constantly use only one area for fear of it not looking professional if they did not, so we managed to pull that off whereas a major film company wouldn’t dare try. I feel the film will have a positive effect on the people watching and will draw them in making them want to find out just what will happen, it will also keep misleading them to make sure that they can’t tell what’s going to happen or when, so they won’t get bored, they will think, “what’s going to happen here, oh I know what’s going to happen here that’s going to WOA WHAT JUST HAPPENED THERE!!! It I can keep that up throughout a film if I were to make one then I would have no trouble holding a captive audience.

2.       Our group represents different social groups such as people who like action and mystery but don’t like to many big shot actors, and those who like to see something that could actually happen in their area by using middle class actors and backdrops witch actually make for a good film setting because they look like something that could happen in real life instead of a big expensive back drop with is difficult to find. We went with what we had and turned it into something great witch I think is a great accomplishment. This shows that a good film can be made with the simplest of backdrops because then it looks like something that could happen in real life, it’s very rare that you here on the news about there being a psychotic murder in The Black Woods, more often or not that sort of thing goes down in Stratham. If we can get this feeling over to the viewers that the things in the film, gory as they are, can actually happen in their community then we have a good chance of making one of the most bone chilling horror film ever seen. The film users child actors so there is a very limited range of what we can pull off on our own, the types of people in our film are killers, in both good and bad ways, they are obviously from a suburban group as seen by their clothes, accents and surroundings, so like a said this is something that can actually happen. That’s what frightens the public, when they realize this could happen near them at any point and they could wind up involved in a deathly sinister plot. If it can get around that this film is doing this then more people will what to go and see our film.

3.       I think that pinewood studios would take a good look at our film and maybe look into it, I think this because they have not made a film for a while and perhaps if they find the plot good enough they will have a go and try to get back on their feet, and maybe if they were a bit dry for new ideas Warner brothers might take a crack at it, but as I said only if they were having a bit of a dry run because they often have some good ideas. I consider our film something that would be made if a major film producer was getting bit desperate, so it could be made in that situation and then actually turn into a major film with lots of good reviews. This is something that often happens with films, they see the plan officially and think, “well this won’t pull in that much views”, and then it turns into something spectacular, a cult classic at least

4.       We think the audience for us would be people who like action mysteries and things that make you think one thing happened when really another did, so the movie is unpredictable, we also provide things that our audience would respond to, action, violence, mystery, suspense, we know that these would go down well because our research shows that films with these tendencies have gotten good ratings. A popular television show which uses this premise is ‘Life on Mars’, often you are led to believe one thing when the truth was something far more complex and unexpected, this happened in most every episode and elements in these where building up to the final episode

5.       We attract and address our audience by dragging them into the plot by getting them interested in finding out why all this shooting is taking place and to find out who the mysterious man is who saved the man who just go shot, and who the hell the man wedged up the tree was, these are the things the audience will want to know and why they will keep on watching. It’s their curiosity that we are tapping into. One thing we did to gain interest was that we used P.O.V shots and we managed to get two of these in, one was an idea of Lee’s when he thought to use his perch up the tree to film Nathan running along, and when it’s the P.O.V of the man who shot Lee, this gives the audience a feeling that there in with the action.

6.       I learned from this project that there is a lot of different technologies that go towards making a film, such as camera tricks, computer editing, sound effects and dubbing over places where the audio is impaired, like having lee film from up a tree or using the stand to make some pretty smooth pan shots, all of these which we used to make our film contributed to it in some way which gave us something we are quite proud to put our name on. We overcame many issues such as trying to find a suitable tree for Lee to climb up and where to position the camera so it didn’t fall, and working around the rainfall. It took us a great deal of time to find a suitable place to film but found it up in the woods near the pit.

7.       From the preliminary task to the completed task I have learned lots of different film techniques, like having lee film from up a tree or using the stand to make some pretty smooth pan shots and I feel that these will help me out in future projects where I may learn more still. Techniques include panning, high angle, low angle and cutting.

Welcome to Royston Vasey, you'll never leave

Welcome to Royston Vasey, you'll never leave. Royston Vasey, a small remote town in the middle of nowhere, the only thing more bizare than the town is its inhabitants, meet Pauline the careers officer with her bizare and painful hands on aproach to the unimployed she supposedly 'helps', or as she calls them, dole scum. Perhaps you should come across the local butcher Hilery Briss, and fall in with his colleages and get a taste for his, 'speacial stuff, the same thing responsible for a deadly nosebleed epidemic after it was cut with sandwich paste, but women beware, as this town plays as sort of home to bizare circus master Papa Lazarou, beware lest should you fall to his collection of wifes, heres a hint, if he says, ''YOUR MY WIFE NOW'', your screwed. Perhaps you could get a job at the plastics center, and meet Geof, the anger promblematic with a gun that comes from nowhere and his bizare sence of humour. All off these and more are ferried around by 'Babs Cabs', owned and run by barbera, a person of unknown sex after a botched sex operation by local vet, 'Mr Chinnery', pets saved: 6, pets killed in strange bizare and horrific but at the same time hilarious ways: 364. but dispite all this its really a lovely place to live, but you will never see any of it if you are stupid enough to enter, The Local Shop, run by tubbs and edward, the stranger hating couple with a bizare diet and and a serious ignorance for the changing world around them, but if your ignorant to go anyway, when she asks you if your local god help you if you dont say yes, or theyle throw you to there monstrouse off spring, David, or Edward will ask Tubbs to get undressed, you'll be dead before you can count to 'twelvety'. Royston Vasey, a lovely little place to live, if you dare.
